Beyond Our Doors

Uptown Faith Community Service Center (UFCSC) provides assistance to the homeless, poor, and needy, without discrimination, to become self-supporting members of our community. Founded in 1984 with some key leadership from Reverend Jim Long who was, at the time, an Associate Minister at University Christian Church. UFCSC serves over 1200 men and women monthly. Services include phone and message outlets, food, mail, bus passes, California ID, birth certificate assistance, HIV testing, hygiene kits as well as partnering with San Diego Hospice to help terminally ill people to live out their days with dignity and support. Members and friends of University Christian Church are encouraged to shop for food and hygiene items to put it our UPTOWN shopping cart on our Third Sunday Outreach.

Third Sunday Outreach is our focus on assisting Uptown Faith Community Service Center, providing a free monthly Community Breakfast fellowship for over 100 church members and neighbors in our Friendship Hall. Anyone is welcome to drop in.

Heifer International is a nonprofit that alleviates hunger, poverty, and environmental degradation through gifts of food and income producing farm animals and training. These animals provide a source of protein, such as eggs and milk, for children and generate income for families through the sale of animal products. Since 1944 Heifer has helped over 4 million families in 125 countries become self-reliant. Each family "passes on the gift" by giving one or more of its animal's offspring to another family in need.
